No high-tech without low-tech

If you want to change society for the better, in a peaceful way, you need to replace existing systems. Overtaking them is not an option, because that would likely lead to violence.

Generally speaking there are two movements seeking to replace the old system: one left leaning and one right leaning. The first is more focused on low-tech, organic, yoga, communal living, holistic, yurts, didgeridoos and so forth. The second is more focused on high-tech, block chain, AI, longevity, seamless, disruptive, venture capital and so forth.

These two directions are obviously two sides of the same coin. You can’t grow organic Iphones and you can’t eat blockchains. Our community tries to seamlessly integrate the two sides with innovative solutions to redefine and hack the paradigm of what if means to live free. Or if you prefer to use normal language: we want to bring together these two different groups who at its core share a similar ideal.

“big group of skinny hippies in a very high tech setting, surrounded by zaha hadid style buildings, sitting on grass, playing a didgeridoo”

We are located in a very rural area, and most of the work involves getting your hands dirty. Currently that means building basic infrastructure, housing and clearing land for cultivation. Consequently we don’t attract many IT specialists, crypto whales, and AI programmers. But rest assured, we want you guys too!

What better place to research longevity in an area where people have a very high life expectancy? (I can tell you the secret too: eat lots of meat & fish, drink & smoke without worry, work every day in your garden and live in the least wheelchair accessible region imaginable.)

In any case, you can research longevity in our community, while being surrounded by people who achieve eternal life the old fashioned way: by having children. Once old age inevitably catches up with you, the younger generation can give you a hand when you need it.

If you like to work with AI, you can set up your own server in Penadexo and train your own AI model. The server can run completely off grid on solar and hydro power, connected through Starlink if you like. Rents are much lower than in California or Dubai, the air is a lot cleaner and we haven’t seen a single Iranian drone.

Unfortunately we don’t have a co-working space with adjustable desks, smoothie bar and bean bags yet. But we could definitely build one if you bring us a bitcoin or two.

On a more serious note: food security will become an issue in the near future. If not because of war, it’s due to the simple fact that farmers are retiring and not enough young men are replacing them. Hours are long, the pay is horrible and they are constantly abused by bureaucrats. In addition there is an over-reliance on artificial fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and patented crops. Fields produce record outputs but capital inputs are equally large. Effectively crop yields are very low, much lower than a century ago. That’s why farmers can no longer make a living.

Any Freedom project that wants to succeed long term will need at least some local food production. To have a robust system, that requires minimal external inputs, you need to go organic. However, nature is anything but low-tech. There are an infinite number of complicated organisms competing or collaborating at so many levels, figuring it out is not an easy task. The existence of profitable organic farms proves that it is possible. But they all have one thing in common: its founders dedicated their lives to careful study of nature, to learn how to make it work to their advantage. It’s a process of trial and error that takes many years. You need quite some seed capital before you see results.

Who needs a PS5 when you can have an axe?

While it might not sound exiting to the tech crowd, getting this food start-up thing going is an integral part of maximizing freedom. The combination of tech bros with yoga girls and boss babes with chain saw wielding men would surely create a lively atmosphere. Perhaps even result in a libertarian baby boom.

But most importantly, it would create a robust community with diversity of skills. A prerequisite for autonomy and longevity of any community.
